November 2021 – Recap

  • 8 December 2021

November is always an uneven month. Like every year, it brought the big first winter storm on the 11th, it was loaded with outings, restaurants and walks, and yet everything is not yet exactly as I would like. So, what has happened in the last thirty days in my Winnipeg life?

Outings

I went to see an NHL game, the Winnipeg Jets versus the Edmonton Oilers. I’m not the biggest hockey fan but it’s nice to be among the friendly atmosphere and see how fast the game can be!

I also revisited the Royal Canadian Mint, see more below, and Qaumajug, the Inuit Art Centre located in the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Both visits were for work (blog post and photos) but were very enjoyable. It’s great to have a museum for oneself after opening hours!

Nature and walks

I don’t have many photos, because I mostly filmed this month. We did a bit of Geocaching on the Transcanada Trail before the snow came and overnight, everything became a winter wonderland!

Thanks to Instagram, I also stumbled upon a small restaurant and café in Rosenort, the Old Farmhouse. They offer high teas / afternoon teas with flowery cups, strawberry jam, finger sandwiches, dainties. It was amazing, I can’t wait to go back.

A weather update

This is going to be my sixth winter in Manitoba and I had never experienced freezing rain until last week. It is HORRIBLE. The icy sidewalks become skating rings, the rain just clings to everything… I fell, of course.

The photo was taken from inside the car the following morning.

Elsewhere on the Internet

For Passion Histoire, I returned to visit the Royal Canadian Mint, the place where all Canadian coins are made, as well as those from around 80 countries around the world. It’s just fascinating, the visit is full of anecdotes, I invite you to go visit it or read my post!

Culture

I read

The Other Black Girl, by Zakiya Dalila Harris, which is very popular at the moment. It is the story of a young black woman in a publishing house, who is delighted one day to no longer be the only employee of colour in the company. But she begins to receive anonymous messages telling her to give up her job, her colleague steals her tasks and a sort of Black Lives Matter revolution is brewing. There were some great ideas, but it wasn’t all very well expressed in this first novel.

I have seen

Gilmore Girls. I had mentioned in a previous recap that I had restarted the series, which I finished, with the 4 additional episodes. It was soft, comforting, I already miss it.

James Bond, Dr. No, From Russia with Love. I had never had any James Bond movie before those with Daniel Craig so is there a better project for the long winter evenings? It’s both outdated and sexist, it’s a little weird.

Princess Switch, that I had missed. And it was just what I needed, a funny, cute and improbable movie at the same time.

What’s for December?

I’m already thinking about 2022 in reality. For December, I’ve planned some fun times, lots of cakes, watching all the Netflix Christmas movies, and continuing to think about trying to change some things that I don’t like in my life. I wish you a nice month!
