After writing the year’s review, I almost enjoy sitting down to think about goals, projects, intentions for the new year.
Here is what I would like to happen, will make happen in 2022:
Travels
In 2022, I would like to go to Alberta, visit Calgary and Edmonton again but mostly to spend time in the Rockies for the first time. It will depend on COVID of course but also on my tendon and the weather (snow in May? forest fires? anything is possible!)
Otherwise, I’m planning a short trip to Toronto in October, to celebrate my boyfriend’s 10-year anniversary of living in Canada. The goal would be to walk in the footsteps of his first year in Canada, eat in his favorite restaurant at the time, walk his former daily commute… I can’t wait!
Freelance
2022 is off to a good start, I’ll be writing for Webouest, a pan-Canadian francophone content platform and my first sponsored content of the year is underway, for Youtube (I can’t wait to show you! It will have English subtitles!). I hope to earn a little more than what I earned last year, which seems doable.
Blog and Youtube
I want to publish in a consistent way, with the somewhat crazy project of managing to release 52 blog articles (in both languages) during this year. I’ve made a posting schedule, with archives and trips that I’ve never talked about but also containing Manitoba themes and content, I believe it will work!
For Youtube, I would like to publish a dozen videos, we’ll see if I can do it. I would also like to reach a thousand subscribers – it seems reachable, I have 340 at the time of writing these lines!
The question of monetization is still a bit in the back of my mind. I almost took the plunge last October and gave up again. If I manage to earn money through other contracts, I consider that I don’t need to put ads on the blog. But if the contracts were to end, I would think about it again.
Learning
I want to continue Duolingo and will reach 1000 continuous days of daily practice in a few months. I hope to rise to level 1 in Arabic and I have to take up German again, which I have neglected a bit. I have just made myself a schedule, each day with a different language skill, it’s really the best way to progress I think (in any case the one that will motivate me and structure me the most).
I am progressing week by week in the Indigenous Canada course from the University of Alberta and will have to finish it in eight weeks. I will then look to start another training (on what? I don’t know!)
Going out
Hikes, walks, Geocaching. I would really like to be able to go for a walk in nature (whether it’s in the park 5 minutes from my house or a provincial/national park) every weekend because I know it makes me feel good.
Otherwise, in terms of exhibitions and culture, I look at the calendar with a somewhat pessimistic eye, everything having been canceled for the first quarter, except the Festival du Voyageur.
Personal level
Walk more, because I’m really far too sedentary after almost two years of working from home. I’m not sure that 2022 will be the year in which I get my driving license (we’ve only been talking about it for 4 years…) but it would still be good to have it one day… And I would like continue to use the routines and systems I have in place, with to-do lists, calendar, etc. It has worked very well so far.
See you at the end of the year for the results and a bit month by month to discuss it in the monthly recaps! See you next week !
